Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS)
The DCMS is responsible for Government policy on the arts,
sport, the National Lottery, tourism, libraries, museums and
galleries, broadcasting, film, the music industry, press freedom
and regulation, licensing, gambling and the historic
environment.
It is also responsible for the listing of historic buildings
and scheduling of ancient monuments, the export licensing of
cultural goods, the management of the Government Art Collection
and for the Royal Parks Agency.
The DCMS's aim is to improve the quality of life for all
through cultural and sporting activities, to support the
pursuit of excellence and to champion the tourism, creative and
leisure industries.

Manchester's
Cultural Strategy
Manchester's Cultural Strategy was published in May 2002. It sets
out a vision and programme for building on Manchester's achievements
and realising the creative potential of our community. It places
culture at the heart of the city's Community Strategy and Strategy
for Neighbourhood Renewal. It is a vision led by the Council and
offers a framework through which public, private and voluntary sector
partners can work together towards common objectives. It covers a wide
range of activities including arts, sports, tourism, heritage and media.

The Manchester Partnership - the city's Local Strategic Partnership -
finds new ways of solving difficult and complex issues that affect the
lives of residents - issues that prevent people from participating fully
in the city's economic, social and cultural life. The top priority

responsible
